Janine Partington - small enamel panels from Copper Series 2020 x72dpi.jpg

Born in 1971 I moved to Bristol in 1998 and soon after the birth of my second child in 2002 I began adult education evening classes in enamelling at Bristol School of Art and Design. I became a full-time maker in 2006 initially setting up my main studio in my home, before moving to BV Studios.
I sell my work widely across the UK and have exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol and at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
In 2018 I completed an MA in Design at the University of the West of England and through this course began a new body of work in leather which sits alongside my core enamelling practice. I create works in leather mainly in my home studio.

My enamelling studio has been based at BV Studios for over five years. Here in my kiln I create enamel on copper wall panels, jewellery and vessels largely inspired by the natural world.
I scalpel cut stencils from my own designs, place these over thin copper sheet, sift powdered glass vitreous enamels over, lift the stencil and fire in a kiln. This process is repeated until the piece is complete.
